According to old documents, the Eser family has been producing wine since 1685. The origin of the estate, a former mill, dates back to 1790.
Today the winery is managed by Johannes Eser, an ecologist and economist, and the oldest son and heir of Hans Herrnann Eser and his wife Eltriede, both from traditional wine growing families, who led the winery to its world class reputation during the last 30 years. While Johannes is officially in charge, Hans Hermann and Elfriede are and will be involved full-time for many years to come.
The planted area covers 35 acres, with 100% Riesling. It is well irrigated and set out to a modern technical standard, enabling the Esers to work in an economically and ecologically viable way. The soils range from sandy loam to heavy slate. With an average vine age of 25 years, the Esers produce approximately 120,000 bottles of Riesling per year.
